Iowa Bird Rehabilitation
Iowa Bird Rehabilitation is a nonprofit, volunteer based organization established in 2018. Our goal is to recover, rehabilitate and release orphaned and injured wild birds in the state of Iowa. We are licensed through the Iowa DNR and have a federal permit through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. We mainly serve the entire Des Moines Metro area, but also admit birds from all over the state. In 2021 we admitted over 1600 wild birds and released almost 1,000 back into the wild. We care for songbirds, waterfowl, shore birds, game birds, and small raptors. We rely on volunteers to clean, feed, and transport birds to us, as well as work with the public on determining if a bird is in need of help. Our future goal is to expand and strengthen our education and conservation programs as well as raise money and build a premier facility specific to the needs of rehabilitating wild birds in Iowa.
