The Illinois Equine Humane Center (ILEHC) rescues horses from abusive environments (starvation, physical) and pull horses out of the slaughter pipeline.  The horses in our care enter scared, malnourished, and untrusting.  We spend countless months administering proper nutrition, cleaning wounds, veterinary, and farrier care.  Horses are rehabilitated and rehomed when possible.  Other remain with us in a sanctuary status; content and bonded with their pasture mates and humans.  

We are an all volunteer organization formed in 2008 and continue to be a going concern based on donations, grants, and fundraisers.  Thank you.
