Hunger Relief International
About us
The battle against hunger, extreme poverty, under-education, poor access to basic services, and much more will be fought for years to come. The expansive and devastating nature of poverty and the misery it wreaks upon all humankind can never be underscored enough. HRI was established in 2010 with a commitment to positively impact child survival and outcomes, parental capacity to care for, support, love and nurture children, and community responsibility for all its members.
HRI was founded with the intention of creating a unique, holistic and agile organization able to respond to the needs of extremely vulnerable children, families and local communities in ways that would benefit the “whole” as well as the individual. Our work is focused on Haiti and Guatemala, countries wracked by conflict, gang violence and uncertainty. These are countries without safety nets, no public social services, limited access to public education, and little to no access to healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and other basic needs. The struggle is not to thrive but rather to simply survive. Our goal is to change that narrative!
HRI is an INGO working to improve and protect the lives of children and families living in extreme poverty by building resiliency, fighting hunger, promoting family unity, and increasing self-sufficiency. Our work focuses on improving child survival and long-term outcomes by expanding access to nutrition; healthcare; education; clean water; sanitation; hygiene; psychosocial support; and other essential services for children and women. A key objective in our work is building family and community resiliency and household self-sufficiency by equipping at-risk mothers and orphaned youth, utilizing a culturally relevant, needs-based approach including small business training, vocational / technical schools, development programs and micro-grants to ensure self-reliability.
