We are the only open admission shelter in western South Dakota. We take in and house almost 4,000 animals each year.  Our Humane Society provides animal control services for Pennington County and the Rapid City area.  We are currently building "Kitty City" which is slated to be opening later this summer. Kitty City will house all of our cat population as well as our small exotic animals. This will help to increase the lives saved as they will no longer be housed next door to our dogs and their stress levels will drastically be decreased there for they have a better chance of not getting sick. We will also be creating a Community/Education Outreach room to help engage and education our community about being better pet parents, volunteering in our community, etc. Our shelter was honored to have Calamity Jane, the first puppy from South Dakota, to be in the 2026 Puppy Bowl come from our Humane Society!
