The Hawai‘i Wildlife Center provides medical care and rehabilitation to native birds and bats from the entire state of Hawai‘i, plus we assist with wildlife response and health issues in the Northwestern Hawaiian islands when requested. Our hospital and satellite facilities provide medical treatment and rehabilitation to sick, injured or orphaned native birds and bats with the goal of releasing patients back into the wild. HWC also serves as a community resource to share information about our native species and how to better protect them. The Hawai‘i Wildlife Center aims to reverse the extinction trend in our islands and counteract the further loss of native wildlife in the Pacific, while providing a resource that helps humans and native species coexist.

The Center fills a unique role in protecting ecosystems through our efforts to return sick, injured, or orphaned native species back to their environments once they are healed and healthy. With any biological system, the ability to function depends on the health of the system’s components. The native species we care for and return to Hawai‘i’s forests, wetlands, and ocean play a role in maintaining Hawai‘i’s biodiversity and healthy ecosystems.
