About us

Glasgow City Mission was established in 1826 in response to poverty in the city. Nearly 200 years later, we continue to support people facing social disadvantage, empowering some of the most vulnerable in Glasgow through four main projects.

Hospitality and Activities

Our Drop-In Service is often the first point of support for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. We meet immediate needs for food, warmth, and connection, while building trusted relationships that help people move towards stability. Demand has risen significantly due to the cost-of-living crisis, and we continue to respond with compassion and dignity.

We provide sit-down, two-course meals daily, with over 55,000 meals served last year. Guests value not only the food, but the sense of belonging and care they receive. These simple provisions restore dignity and support well-being.

Recovery and Restoration

Many guests face complex challenges, including trauma, addiction, and mental health issues. We provide therapeutic groups, counselling, and our Rehab Pathways programme, offering one-to-one and group support focused on long-term recovery and renewed self-worth.

We also promote physical and mental well-being through inclusive activities such as weekly football, monthly hillwalking, and access to a small gym, helping build confidence and community.

Free, on-site counselling is available, with flexible, person-centred support tailored to individual needs.

Children and Families

Based in Linthouse, Govan, our Child and Family Centre supports families in an area of high deprivation. We offer a safe, welcoming space where parents and children can grow in confidence and wellbeing through family sessions, youth clubs, and one-to-one support.

At the heart of this is our Family Club, where families connect through play, learning, and shared meals. We currently support over 65 families each week, with demand continuing to grow. Many describe the Centre as a lifeline, helping to reduce isolation and building hope.

Homelessness and Advocacy

Each winter, we operate a 24-hour Rapid Rehousing Welcome Centre, providing safe accommodation for up to 24 people each night. More than shelter, it offers dignity, care, and a pathway out of homelessness through personalised support and advocacy.

Over the past decade, we have supported nearly 6,000 people, helping many move into stable housing or reconnect with family. Simple provisions, such as a warm meal, clean clothes, or a safe bed, can be a turning point, creating lasting change.

Each winter, we see the impact: lives are not only protected, but transformed.
