Girls Gotta Run invests in Ethiopian girls who empower themselves and their communities through running and education. We are the only non-profit organization in Ethiopia dedicated to using the national sport of running as an innovative approach to creating safe spaces, ending child marriage, and expanding access to secondary school for vulnerable girls.

Our Athletic Scholarship Program model focuses on four key investment strategies for girls and their mothers: running clubs, educational scholarships, life skills training, and mother’s savings and entrepreneurship groups. The creation of safe spaces is critical in reducing girls’ sense of isolation and increases their capacity to assert their right to

choose to stay in school and when to marry. Since our inception, Girls Gotta Run has seen 96% of its program participants in its two program locations avoid early

marriage, complete the Girls Gotta Run program in full, and enter higher levels of education. Over our 16-year history, Girls Gotta Run has impacted more than 1,400 people in Ethiopia.
