Genesis and Light Center (G&L) focuses its efforts in combating a wide range of youth problems including school dropouts, poor academic performance, inadequate college entrance preparation, inadequate knowledge of the job market, abuse or neglect, teenage pregnancy and children-at-risk of using drugs or entering a life of crime or gangs. G&L’s services include tutoring, counseling, educational assistance, arts and crafts, drama and dance, and extracurricular/enrichment activities to children ages 6 to 18. Genesis and Light Center’s Educational Assistance Mentoring Project (GLEAM) consists of the Afterschool program, summer enhancement camp, spring break camp, drama club and Saturday math program and various workshops and seminars hosted by motivational speakers. The objectives of this project are to promote the importance of education, values, positive attitudes, high levels of self-esteem, and strengthen students and their families in such a way to avoid a life of crime or welfare dependency. The purpose of this project is to decrease & discourage youth involvement in sex, drugs, crimes, violence or other juvenile delinquency behaviors.
