Water League engages the public in water stewardship to stop large-scale water users from dewatering streams and draining aquifers. We press hard for equitable access to water, conservation of water for posterity, and the highest and best uses of water along the most preferential and priority uses because we don't have water to waste on non-beneficial uses of water. We serve the public interest as it applies to environmental health and public health. We protect aquifers and rivers from Virtual Water Exports using the Public Trust Doctrine, focusing on the Rights of Nature, and changing the law. Large-scale irrigation uses 80% of all water extractions; not all of that water use is justified, especially in arid regions. We acknowledge and honor all the indigenous peoples who made their home since time immemorial throughout the areas where Water League works and upon whose ancestral homelands we live. Water League acknowledges the care by which indigenous inhabitants have stewarded precious natural resources for millennia and seeks to be of service within this historical framework.
