El Refugio was formed in response to the overwhelming need to help dogs and cats in an area where many thousands of animals are homeless and in dire need of medical intervention, daily care and nutrition. 
It takes a lot of love and dedication to carry out our great mission. We receive no governmental funding and are 100% supported by donations. More donations mean more animals will be helped, ending suffering for many dogs and cats. We focus on spay and neuter as well as rescuing homeless, sick and injured dogs and cats.
Friends of El Refugio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena Inc is a registered 501(c) 3 organization that was established in the United States to raise awareness of and promote the charitable activities of El Refugio Hogar Animal Costa Ballena (El Refugio) in Costa Rica, as well as to provide financial support. El Refugio is a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue organization in Uvita, Costa Rica.
