FoodShare is Canada’s largest food justice organization, advocating for the right to food, and working to challenge the systemic barriers that keep people from accessing the food they need to thrive. We support community-led food initiatives and work alongside communities most affected by poverty and food insecurity: Black and Indigenous people, people of colour, people with disabilities, and folks living on a low income. Originating as a pilot project aimed at combatting hunger in the City of Toronto, FoodShare was incorporated in 1985. Since then, our work has been informed by community leaders who are passionate about creating equitable food systems and realizing the right to food for themselves and their communities.

Whether it is supporting urban farms, subsidizing local produce markets or coordinating community kitchens, all of our work is about folks accessing food on their own terms, with dignity and joy. Each year, Food share reaches over 200,000 people in the city through various programs and initiatives focused on advancing the right to food.
