"I want the world to know that people with Down syndrome can achieve. We have different personalities and dreams, goals and feelings like you. I think people like us need to be heard. And to have a voice. I am one of these people", says Sarah. There is an estimated 13,000 people with Down syndrome living in Australia and 7 million living around the world. As one of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in Australia, individuals with Down syndrome are more at risk of developing medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity than the general population. An active lifestyle is key to reducing these diseases. Unfortunately, people with Down syndrome face significant barriers to services and experiences many members of the community take for granted, such as recreation. e.motion21 is a non-profit organisation that provides an Australian-first, evidence based, innovative dance and fitness programs for children and young adults with Down syndrome. Through performance-based activities and community engagement, e.motion21 aims to enhance lives for people with Down syndrome and change perceptions of Down syndrome within society. All donations help us to expand our programs, moving more bodies and moving more boundaries.
