Doctors die of suicide at a rate higher than active duty military or even prisoners. Female doctors die these self-induced deaths of despair at a rate 4 times higher than other female professionals.

And the rates are even worse for some other health care workers.

The causes include toxic workplace environments, impossible demands, burnout, learned-helplessness, loss of autonomy, overwhelming bureaucratic intrusions, excessive work hours, social stigma for seeking help, anxiety, and depression, among others.
