About us
Dads Rock is a Scottish charity supporting fathers to build strong, nurturing relationships with their children and families, particularly where families are experiencing poverty, trauma, isolation or disadvantage. Our work is grounded in the belief that children thrive when dads thrive. Supporting fathers is a powerful, preventative intervention that strengthens whole families, improves outcomes for children, and helps break cycles of intergenerational trauma.
We work primarily with fathers who are often overlooked by traditional family services, including lone fathers, fathers living in poverty, dads experiencing family breakdown, care-experienced fathers, and those facing multiple disadvantages such as poor mental health, unemployment or social isolation. Many of the families we support experience higher rates of child poverty, relationship breakdown and historic trauma. By engaging fathers early and consistently, we help families build resilience, stability and positive attachment.
We combine practical support, emotional wellbeing, peer connection and opportunities for positive shared experiences between fathers and their children. We deliver inclusive, trauma-informed programmes that create safe, welcoming spaces where fathers can connect, learn and grow. This includes structured one to one support, group sessions, volunteer led peer support, community activities and family-focused events that strengthen bonds and reduce isolation.
Central to our approach is prevention. By supporting fathers to develop confidence, parenting skills and positive coping strategies, we help reduce the likelihood of crisis and family breakdown. Fathers who feel supported are better able to nurture their children, co-parent effectively, and engage positively with wider family networks. This has a direct impact on children’s emotional wellbeing, development and sense of security.
Dads Rock takes a restorative and recovery-focused approach, recognising the impact of trauma, poverty and adverse childhood experiences on parenting and family life. Our staff and volunteers are trained to work compassionately, meeting fathers where they are and building trust over time. We focus on strengths rather than deficits, empowering fathers to play an active, positive role in their children’s lives and to repair relationships where they have been strained or broken.
We work collaboratively with partners across the community, including early years services, family support organisations and local networks, ensuring fathers are connected to the wider support they need. Our work contributes to stronger families, reduced isolation, improved parental wellbeing and better outcomes for children—helping to interrupt cycles of disadvantage and create lasting, positive change across generations.
