Finding a loving, caring, permanent home for every child who enters the court system drives CASA’s every effort. The abused and neglected children we assist are the most vulnerable population in our county. Operating under signed orders from the Superior Court of California, the volunteers we provide act to assure the best outcomes for infants, toddlers and children in Juvenile Dependency Court. The child benefits from our volunteer’s focused efforts on assuring their health and well-being. The volunteer, through socializing weekly with the child, serves as the eyes and ears of the court, learning the child’s history, assessing their needs, and helping secure medical, educational, and therapeutic services, and making recommendations to the court. Most importantly to the child is the CASA volunteer’s constancy—this one person stays the same regardless of changing residences, caregivers, social workers, and schools. (75% of the children in San Luis Obispo county foster care have changed placements two or more times.)
