About us
conFAB supports and develops accessible, high quality arts practices, which promote the well-being and development of all people. We have extensive, hands on, experience of delivering highquality programmes of creative writing, visual art, drama, music and dance workshops and performances, providing free arts activities for people facing barriers to participation.
For the past 21 years, under the leadership and expertise of founding Director Rachel McJury, the organisation has delivered a diverse range of arts events and activities, collaborating with a wide range of communities and art forms, including theatre and storytelling with asylum seekers and refugees; creative writing and music with care-experienced young people; poetry, theatre and music with people of all ages experiencing mental health issues; and, poetry and music with young people experiencing multiple barriers to engaging with arts.We are exceptionally experienced at working in partnership, having collaborated with a wide range of partners across Scotland, including Scottish Poetry Library, Scottish Book Trust, National Library of Scotland, Museum of Scotland, and Stirling, Inverclyde, Edinburgh and Dumfries and Galloway Councils. We have been commissioned by Scottish Refugee Council, Oxfam Scotland, West of Scotland Regional Equality Council, Wellcome Trust, and Glasgow Life. Our work has contributed to prominent festivals such as the Year of Young People, Aye Write, Refugee Festival Scotland, Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, 16 Days of Action, and Merchant City Festival.
A key priority is to provide access to the arts, in particular poetry and spoken word, for young people who would not otherwise engage due to a range of barriers such as disability, social and economic deprivation and attitude.
