PlusLife is WA's only bone bank. Similar to organ donation, people can consent to donation of bone, tendons, ligaments and skin, to help patients in need. We retrieve donated human bone and tissue and we process the tissue to produce transplants (grafts) for use in a wide range of surgeries (spinal deformities, bone cancers, complex joint problems caused by arthritis and trauma; and surgery for dental and facial bone loss). We have two donor programs, patients having hip replacements can donate the ball part of the hip joint removed during surgery; and like organ donation, with the consent of the next of kin, people can donate after their death. We don't receive any external funding other than a fee recovered when a graft is implanted, and we need your help! Any financial donations to PlusLife are tax deductible. We have just completed the construction of a state of the art facility in Midland, which we will lease from the WA State Government. There will obviously be increased costs of operation of this facility, which we will need to fund ourselves. The new facility includes a dedicated research laboratory, which will enable us to work to develop new transplant grafts, ensure that we are constantly improving our processing methods; and ensure the transplants we produce are of the highest quality.
