Centre For Asylum Seekers Refugees And Detainees (CARAD)
About us
CARAD was formed in 2000 when the then Australian government issued Temporary Protection Visas (TPV) which provoked community opposition to this harsh new law. Volunteers started providing basic settlement assistance and support to refugees holding Temporary Protection Visas. Since then, CARAD has been an active campaigner for positive change and social justice in the Australian Government's refugee determination conditions and process. Today CARAD is recognised is a respected voice for the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and detainees and a provider of essential services, ensuring that all people seeking safety in Australia are able to live with dignity. Since opening its doors in 2000, CARAD has provided support to over 5000 asylum seekers, refugees and detainees through our Case Management and Volunteer Programs.
