·      Challenge Alaska improves the lives of people living with disabilities, their families, and the community through adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation, and education. Our vision is that Alaskans of all abilities have equal opportunity and access to sports, recreation, and community life. Guided by our core values, known as EDICT, we center Empathy by valuing diverse perspectives and lived experiences, uphold Dignity by honoring each individual’s humanity, foster Inclusion by embracing the uniqueness and participation of every person, strengthen Community through meaningful connection and cooperation, and promote Transcendence by building confidence, ability, and independence that expand horizons.

Each year, Challenge Alaska provides life changing adaptive recreation programs to more than 1,000 children, adults, and veterans living with physical, visual, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Our ParaSport programs serve individuals with physical and visual disabilities and include activities that evolve based on participant feedback, including adaptive rock climbing, beep baseball, cycling, goalball, hockey, mountain biking, Nordic skiing, para pickleball, sled hockey, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair lacrosse, wheelchair tennis, water sports, hiking, camping, and more. Raven Programs are designed for individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities and offer opportunities such as backpacking, fishing trips, movie nights, overnight ski camps, Special Hockey, Summer Adventure Camps, water sports, and our new Summit Adventure Camp launched in summer 2024. Our Warrior Programs serve veterans living with disabilities through biathlon, cycling, golf, hockey, paddling, sled hockey, and community events, while veterans are also welcome in all Challenge Alaska programs. Golf and paddling were added within the past two summers to meet growing interest.

Our Adaptive Ski and Ride School serves individuals of all ages and disability types, including those with co occurring disabilities, through individual and group lessons as well as training opportunities for visiting athletes and instructors. Each winter, the school delivers more than 1,200 lessons to over 600 individuals and is supported by more than 300 dedicated volunteers.
