Our mission here at the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter is to help people recognize the destructive power and effect of domestic violence on families and society.  To help victims of domestic violence and their families achieve self-sufficiency and preserve dignity by providing services in a timely, responsible, courteous, and efficient manner.  In addition to being an emergency shelter, we have a 24-hour crisis intervention line.  We offer individual counseling and support groups, referrals to legal aid, court advocacy, aid with protective orders and restraining order information, aid with crime and violence information and compensation, and referrals to other agencies.  CBFS has pet kennels on site enabling the victims to bring their pets with them to a safe place and away from their abuser.  Having their pets with them gives them a sense of peace for healing and helps to comfort them.  Our facility has 10 client rooms, large client kitchen, large multi-purpose/family room, children's playroom, playground with playground equipment, laundry facilities, and a resource room equipped with computers, printer, and phone.  CBFS provides clients in shelter with food, hygiene products, baby supplies (pampers, wipes, formula, etc.), clothing, prescriptions, medication, gas, transportation, and bus tickets to a destination that is safe with family support.
