Bide Awhile Animal Shelter has been providing a safe place for lost and abandoned animals for over 50 years. We are a privately owned animal shelter, with no government funding. Every animal that comes through our door receives health checks from our veterinarian, spay or neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, FIV testing and socialization before heading off to their forever home. The $180 adoption fee (cats) or $220 adoption fee (dogs) goes towards covering the medical care for the animals. In this unprecedented time, we have had to put our adoption program on hold until we can find a safe way to reinstate it. We have made this decision to keep our staff safe and healthy so that they can continue to provide essential care for the animals at the shelter. Along with the halt in adoption fees, we have seen the postponement of many of our largest fundraisers. This has resulted in a financial loss that has been greater than we could have anticipated.
We continue to provide support to the community during the pandemic. We have a pet food pantry program for those who are unable to provide food for their animals during this time. We are also still helping those who are looking to surrender an animal. To access either of these programs, we ask the public to call in advance to set-up an appointment.
Bide Awhile will continue to provide a safe place for the homeless and abandoned animals within our community. If you are in the position to do so, please consider making a donation that will go directly towards the costs incurred through providing care for the animals. Every dollar raised gives the animals in our care a much deserved, second chance at life.
