Founded in 2016, Birth Trauma Australia (BTA), formerly the Australasian Birth Trauma Association (ABTA), is Australia's leading charity dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, and treating birth-related trauma. We are a peer-led organisation working with women, birthing people, families and healthcare professionals who are impacted by birth-related trauma. Over the past nine years, we have gained unique and valuable insights into the nature, scope, and impact of birth-related trauma through:
Working directly with families and health professionals;
Implementing our highly successful peer-to-peer support program,
Conducting community engagement activities;
Undertaking lived-experience-led research
Since launch, Birth Trauma Australia has provided:
Nationally trusted health information on physical and psychological birth-related trauma
Referral pathways to specialist medical, allied health, and peer support services.
Practical tools and fact sheets for clinicians, workplaces, and families.
Lived-experience stories to reduce isolation and stigma.
Online peer support services for women+, partners, and families.
Our vision is for safer births and better healing.
