Asthma NZ is the largest not for profit provider of free respiratory education, training, and support in New Zealand. We know that with raising awareness and the right education that people with asthma can lead a healthy and active life. New Zealand is recognised as having one of the highest rates of asthma in the world, and one of the poorest records in ensuring it’s population, particularly those of lower socioeconomic means live well with asthma. One in eight New Zealand children have asthma and one in eight New Zealand adults have asthma. Respiratory disease is the 3rd leading cause of death in NZ, with approximately 2 people dying from asthma in NZ each week. Asthma deaths are preventable. Asthma NZ have respiratory health educators that go out to where people need us...homes, schools, community centres, marae and medical centres. Everything we do is free, we want to make sure everyone has access. Our educators reduce asthma hospitalisation - 67% of our patients stay out of hospital. What we do works, it gives people freedom and allows them to live with asthma. We are not government funded, we rely on the generosity of funders and every dollar makes a difference
