About us

What started as a dream 21 years ago to educate Maya females has evolved to having 69 scholarship students currently enrolled. In 2003 we had enough money to provide two students to middle school. Today we have over 160 graduates.  Completed projects range from remodeling elementary schools to school computer labs to medical equipment. Many more development opportunities are around the corner.

Amigos de Guatemala supports and promotes education, healthcare, and community to the underserved in Zacualpa, el Quiché, Guatemala. By taking a holistic approach, Amigos de Guatemala provides a hand up not a hand out.

Education: opening the mind: Middle and high school scholarships are the foundation of our program. Free education ends with the sixth grade. Completed projects include a student library, classrooms, and computer labs to elevate the learning experience.

Health: supporting the body: Medical programs, like vision, dental, and mental health provide a better quality of life for individuals. Medical equipment and professional training support healthcare for the all.

Community: sustaining many: A community garden provides food for single mothers and the elderly. Economic development through a water purification system, employs local women with proceeds used to fund their own scholarships and projects.
