Africa Development Promise (ADP) is a US-based nonprofit organization focused on improving the lives and livelihoods of rural women in Rwanda and Uganda, providing them with the tools and resources that enable a pathway to self-sufficiency. Our primary entry point is agriculture because seventy percent of women rely on subsistence farming for their livelihood. We promote the cooperative enterprise model because members can pool resources to create economies of scale. We provide training that strengthens cooperative governance, leadership, and business management and technical assistance in several areas, including soil fertility, water resource management, climate adaptation, and harvest and post-harvest best practices, to name a few. To further ensure sustainability, we support farmers with locally appropriate infrastructure, equipment, and inputs (seed, fertilizer, etc.) and link them to markets. This bundle of services builds human, social, technical, and financial capacity, ensures sustainability, and gives cooperatives a competitive advantage. In addition, we offer vocational training for women to branch out into new enterprises that expand their livelihoods and future resilience.
