Many students with great potential are unable to fully realize that potential because their communities and schools don't provide the social and academic support they need and deserve. ABC serves such students by providing a safe and supportive environment for their entire high school career. Students are offered admittance based on educational success and potential as well as their and their family's commitment to embrace what ABC and Strath Haven High School have to offer. Students accepted to ABC Strath Haven—our Scholars—have exhibited academic excellence and potential for greatness. ABC focuses on each Scholar holistically with academics, extra-curricular activities, shared housing with a maximum of 8 students, and onsite staff support. Scholars also are paired with a local host family to be a “home away from home.” Upon moving into the ABC house, Scholars quickly become assets to Strath Haven High School and the greater Swarthmore Wallingford communities. Our Scholars shine in academic excellence, athletic prowess, and leadership both in and out of the classroom. They participate in a variety of community-based charitable activities throughout the year. Their readiness for college is enhanced by their experiences of life away from home, living with others, and learning how to thrive in such an environment. Our Scholars have a greater than 95% success rate of both attending college and excelling, and moving on to successful careers and families. Well over 100 Scholars have graduated from ABC Strath Haven since its inception in 1974.
