The Wensleydale Railway Association Trust Ltd is the charitable arm of Wensleydale Railway, a 22-mile heritage railway in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire. The railway provides nostalgia, heritage & family days out through spectacular scenery to the local community, tourists & transport enthusiasts. The railway first opened in 1848 and closed to passengers in 1954. The Trust was formed in 1990 and train services returned to the line in 2003.The Trust recruits & trains hundreds of volunteers to support the railway’s operation and also funds specific projects including track repairs & maintenance costs. In addition, it employs staff to run a National Lottery-funded Heritage Education programme with local schools & the general public as well as promoting community engagement with local people & groups up and down the line.
