Our project works to prevent the loss of desert brumbies through culling. We aim to find Australian Waler horses directly descended from, or closely tied to, the legendary mounts used by Australian Light Horse regiments in wartime. These horses represent a living connection to our military history, yet many are at risk of being lost without assessment or intervention. We focus on transitioning them from wild to handled through ethical training methods, supporting both horse and handler, and preparing them for safe and suitable rehoming. In doing so, we not only improve animal welfare outcomes but also preserve an irreplaceable part of Australia’s equine and wartime heritage.
