About us
The United Confederation of Taíno People (UCTP) was founded to promote the self-determination, human rights, cultural preservation, and sustainable development of Taíno and other Caribbean Indigenous Peoples. Through educational advocacy, policy development, cultural revitalization, and community-based initiatives, the organization works to safeguard Indigenous knowledge systems, sacred lands, traditional foodways, and community wellbeing throughout the Caribbean and its Diaspora.
UCTP recently acquired 20 acres of land in western Borikén (Puerto Rico) that will serve as the site of a new Indigenous community center and embassy dedicated to education, cultural exchange, conservation, and sustainable development. A core component of this effort is the Konuko Project, an Indigenous agricultural and biodiversity initiative rooted in traditional Taíno ecological knowledge and sustainable agroforestry practices.
The Konuko Project seeks to restore biodiversity, strengthen local food sovereignty, and increase access to healthy, organic, culturally significant foods for Indigenous families, elders, and children. While the land is already producing mangoes, bananas, breadfruit, coffee, and other food crops, the Konuko Project will introduce and cultivate endemic and endangered Indigenous fruit and plant species historically central to Taíno culture and Caribbean ecological systems.
