The world’s wildlife is in serious danger. Rangers are our first and last line of defence. The Thin Green Line Foundation provides essential equipment, training and support to Rangers on the frontline of conservation, primarily in low-income countries. Rangers often work for little reward or recognition, risking their lives to protect the world’s wildlife and fragile ecosystems. Research in Africa and Asia shows that working as a Ranger is both challenging and dangerous: • Rangers work an average of 76 hours per week for which they earn just $64 USD. • Approximately 60% of Rangers lack basic equipment – boots, raincoats, radios etc. • 40% of Rangers report inadequate training for the realities of the job • Over half of Rangers do not have access to water and sanitation at their station • One in four Rangers contract malaria each year • Two-thirds of Rangers lack any form of health or life insurance in case of injury, illness or death • Globally a Ranger is killed in the line of duty every three days - often violently at the hands of criminal poachers. The Thin Green Line Foundation is the only organisation solely dedicated to providing Rangers with the assistance they deserve. As the official charity arm of the International Ranger Federation, we have unparalleled access to Rangers worldwide. For over a decade we have been delivering critical support to Rangers worldwide – from Kenya to Tanzania, Costa Rica to Guatemala, Thailand to Indonesia. Our projects provide Rangers with critical training in skills such as law enforcement, human-wildlife conflict and first aid; equip Rangers with essential clothing, boots, radios and mosquito nets; build vital conservation infrastructure; and compensate families when a Ranger is unfortunately killed in the line of duty.
