The Samaritans volunteers have been helping those in need since 1976 by providing a 24 hour crisis line. On average, we receive a new call every four minutes and answer hundreds of calls every day, often from people who are having thoughts of suicide or are feeling despairing and alone, with no-one else they can talk to. Our vision is a society in which fewer people die by suicide. All our telephonists are volunteers with a high level of commitment to helping people, by offering non-religious, non-judgemental and confidential emotional support.
