Protecting tamariki from birth is as relevant and essential now as ever as we witness child statistics for abuse and violence increase and a total of 20,000 Canterbury children living below the poverty line. In over 120 years of operation, The Home and Family Society has evolved from a charity providing support to impoverished women into an organisation that works to keep tamariki safe from violence, abuse and neglect through early intervention and whole-whānau initiatives. • Our 24/7 Residential parenting program for parents with tamariki and pēpi on the edge of care. • Heavily subsidised 20-week Child-Centred Play therapy programmes for children aged 3 to 18. • We work in the family violence sector for the Integrated Safety Response (ISR) co-ordinated by the Police, and we are involved in early intervention, wrap-a-round services for children and their whānau. Home & Family is committed to inclusivity for all and is focused on positive outcomes for Maori and Pasifika tamariki and rangitahi who share an inequitable burden of poverty and the disproportionate impact that follows. By empowering our families to reconnect with their history, iwi, whānau and community, we provide measurable change to the lives of over 600 people—our work results in a reduction in the systemic cycle of violence and abuse in Canterbury.
