About us
Our vision is for everybody diagnosed with a brain tumour to live longer, better lives.
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. They do not discriminate and they do not respect boundaries. They can strike anyone, at any age. 88,000 children and adults are estimated to be living with a brain tumour in the UK. Brain tumours reduce life expectancy, on average, by 27 years which is higher than any other cancer.
Our main activities are focused on three areas: Support and Information, Research and Campaigning.
1. Support and Information: in our last financial year our online support groups grew to over 36,000 members, we provided one-to-one support to 12,958 people and our free counselling service grew 74% year-on-year with 739 users. We want to ensure that everybody in the brain tumour community, including those with unmet needs and marginalised groups, has access to the best care and support they need.
2. Research: in our last financial year we awarded £6.2 million to new medical research projects. Since 2010, we have invested nearly £60 million in pioneering research. We are committed to funding the world-class research that moves us further, faster towards cures for all brain tumours.
3. Campaigning for change: in 2024 52,000 people signed our open letter calling for a National Brain Tumour Strategy to effect long-term change and 3,400 people wrote to their MP, reaching MPs in over 94% of constituencies. Average childhood diagnosis time reduced from 14.4 to 6.5 weeks through our multi award-winning HeadSmart campaign.
