The Arc Williamson County empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to actively participate in the community throughout their lifetime through advocacy, research, education, and quality of life services.

We have four main programs.

·         Advocacy:  This is an umbrella for many different projects including:

o   Student Advocacy (assisting families with understanding their educational rights under federal law)

o   Social Skills Classes

o   Book Clubs

o   Teen Group

o   Dating and Relationships classes (in cooperation with Williamson County Schools Transition Program),

o   Workshops on topics of interest to our community (most recently one on future planning)

o   Helping families navigate the incredibly difficult process of applying for state and federal programs. 

·         Counseling:  We recently began a counseling program that targets people with intellectual disabilities, who often find it difficult to locate appropriate mental health services due to their acuity level.

·         Independent Support Coordination:  We have a state contract for providing Independent Support Coordination (targeted case management) to adults and children receiving certain types of Medicaid funding.  Through that contract, we coordinate day, residential, therapy, nursing, and other clinical services for the people receiving that funding. 

·         Family Support:  Our second state contract is for Family Support, which is a grant from the State of Tennessee that we administrate for Williamson County.  85% of the funding from that grant goes directly to people with disabilities and their families to reimburse them for out-of-pocket expenses related to their disability.
