Signs of Fun Deaf Program
About us
For DeafDisabled children, everyday natural experiences, including language development, are hindered by communication barriers and limited communicative opportunities. In these opportunities, we naturally learn about the world, teamwork, relationships, and ourselves. All children are born with the innate need to form bonds and communicate. While most children are born into an environment rich with language, that is not the case with 90% of Deaf children who are born to hearing parents. With an overall shift from localized education programming for students with disabilities, Deaf children now represent a shocking minority in their classrooms, on playgrounds, and in local extracurricular activities. Unchallenged obstacles in language and accessibility detrimentally impact mental health, sense of identity, and communication development within Deaf youth.
