At Second Chance Cavy Rescue , we not only assist people that need to surrender guinea pigs or help rescue guinea pigs in neglect or out of control breeding , but we value education as the way to create wonderful homes for guinea pigs or other small furries.  This in turn, creates amazing connections between animals and people!  Adoption is our goal and we set up Meet N Greets at three different Petsmarts in the San Antonio area  every Sunday.  We provide education, health checks and nail trims for cavy owners at these location as well as adoptions as a Petsmart Charities Adoption Partner.  We are currently foster based .

Local shelters are not only over whelmed by dog and cat surrenders, but this year the amount of guinea pigs, rabbits and other small exotics surrendered or dumped is flooding these shelters, who are not set up to care for them or adopt them out properly. Shelters who usually do not euthanized for space for small furries are now euthanizing healthy guinea pigs and rabbits.  WE can offer an alternative that will save the animals AND find them long term homes, but we need funds to help make that happen.   

There are only a handful of small animal rescues in Texas as the focus in rescue is mainly dogs and cats.  Most grants and other funds for rescue is totally geared toward dog and cat rescue, which leaves rescues like us to fend for ourselves for support and funds.   I personally know of 3 rescues that have closed due to lack of support and funds to care for , vet and provide education for owners to help prevent surrender.

These small  furries bring incredible joy to families , can be therapy and emotional support animals which is what people need so badly these days.  We NEED more small animal rescues to handle the load and spread the education that can end the need for rescue .  I started this rescue in 2012  and everyday, I have people contact me needing help that only we can give.   Our vision for the future includes creating workshops, videos and helping people start rescues so we can impact more pets and families than ever before by having a network of rescues that can work together.  WE NEED YOUR HELP to make this a reality- It takes a community to make it work!
