We are a non-profit animal shelter serving a small, rural community on the North Shore of New Brunswick. The animals in our care come from many circumstances—unclaimed strays, owner surrenders, and transfers from the NB SPCA. No matter how they arrive, our goal is always the same: to find them safe, loving homes while ensuring their time with us is as positive and compassionate as possible.

In 2025 alone, we helped 239 dogs and cats find their forever homes. Our dedicated staff pour their hearts into caring for every animal that comes through our doors, and there are always tears of joy when an adoption is finalized and an animal begins a new chapter of their life.

The idea for the Restigouche County SPCA was born on a cold December night in 1985. As two people locked up the local veterinary clinic, they nearly stepped on a box left outside on the frozen steps. Inside was a litter of puppies, exposed to the bitter cold. There was no animal shelter at the time, and the question lingered: why hadn’t the box been left safely inside the doorway instead of out in the elements?

That moment sparked an idea that quickly grew into action. With the leadership of a local newspaper editor and a veterinarian—and the support of many dedicated community members—the Restigouche County SPCA became a reality. Remarkably, a couple of those early supporters remain on our board nearly 40 years later.

A major milestone came in 1991, when the SPCA took a giant leap forward by acquiring its first physical shelter. Since then, we have continued to grow, guided by compassion, community support, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of animals in Restigouche County.
