About us

AIG is privately funded and Indigenous owned, dedicated to the regeneration of Aboriginal communities and creating sustainable employment opportunities. Our mission is lofty and noble, and we invest in our people through projects that deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal communities. For people living in remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory (NT), washing clothes and bedding has been recognised as posing a significant challenge. Overcrowding, access to working washing machines and availability of laundry detergent present daily difficulties to people in community. These issues can lead to infestations of commonly preventable bacteria which cause scabies, trachoma and rheumatic heart disease. Seven out of 10 children living in remote indigenous communities will have scabies before their first birthday. A public laundry means reliable washing and drying machines, water and power supply, and commercial-grade laundry detergent and sanitizer. This fit for purpose initiative has enormous potential to break the cycle of disease common in Communities. Whilst the Remote Laundries Project is designed to provide much-needed access to laundries for Indigenous community members, research during the discovery phase of the project also highlighted the potential to create meaningful employment within the community, leading to wealth creation for community members. AIG will initially roll-out seven Remote Laundries in remote communities in the seven regions of the Top End of the NT and around 30,000 people will be positively impacted by the availability of fully functioning washing machines. To keep washing and enable establishment of more locations, the project requires funding and support.
