OceanEarth Foundation
About us
OceanEarth Foundation is dedicated to building a future where people and nature thrive together - a world where both our planet and its inhabitants flourish; where prosperity is shared by economies and environments.
To achieve this, we believe a paradigm shift in thinking and global action is essential. This is where we're focused - delivering impactful conservation that strengthens community resilience, at scale and speed. We work across Australia, the Coral Triangle and Pacific to foster resilience, empowering communities to become informed decision-makers and champions of change, bolstering land- and seascapes. Our work spans three interconnected program streams Ocean, Earth and Generation Nature+. We've made great strides recently with two key initiatives: GhostNets Australia and Ocean Youth.
GhostNets AustraliaGhost nets are one of the greatest threats to our oceans, making up half of all macro-marine plastic and posing a severe threat to marine ecosystems. This abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear floats in the ocean for decades, continuing to trap and kill marine life - turtles alone account for 80% of entanglements. We're working to turn off the tap: stopping ghost gear at its source. Ocean Youth Ocean Youth fosters stewardship and leadership amongst young people, building their capacity to influence positive action for our ocean. An innovative, youth-informed, science-based program, it equips young people with the tools, networks and skills to influence positive environmental change and build a more sustainable future through ocean literacy education, innovation, and action.
