Northern Rivers Rail Ltd, as a not-for-profit railway company, is working with the local community to extend climate friendly train services from the current Byron Solar Train service to the rest of our region in Northern NSW. We need public transport for our 315,000 residents and over 2 million visitors to Byron Bay alone every year. The local buses do not provide adequate services for the needs of the population, leaving many stranded and unable to move around easily. Since the floods of 2022 many people like our youth, our elderly and our people with disabilities feel isolated, and towns like Lismore need to be rejuvenated with more visitors, to help local businesses to keep going. 

We need support to fix the tracks and bring frequent all weather low emissions rail travel to this very special region. If we can't save our tracks they will be lost to a bike path. A study of the condition of the tracks and infrastructure has recently been conducted and the costs will be much less than had been previously touted. Having both a regular train service on the track and a bike/walking path beside it will benefit everyone in the community as well as our visitors.
