Dubbo Indian Myna Control Program
About us
Dubbo Indian Myna Control Program was started in April 2022 by Dubbo Environment Group Inc. DIMCP has at the time of writing eradicated over 3480 mynas in the CW., distributed 160 private traps and built 4 aviary traps on trailers for use where large flocks are sighted. There were no other NSW rural Indian Myna control groups when we started, which means that the bird continues to spread westwards from the coast. Sightings are now prevalent in Lightning Ridge and the Macquarie Marshes, yet we have no government strategy for feral pest birds. The Indian Myna outcompetes native species by taking over nest hollows, ridding the nest of eggs and fledglings, and then driving the parent birds away. Once established, they will aggressively chase all birds out of their territory in military-style flocks. Some flocks have been counted in numbers greater than 100.The IM also outcompetes native birds in breeding. One pair will breed 3 times per season with 4-8 eggs per time. A Glossy Black Cockatoo lays 1 egg per season. Our Facebook page now has 2.2K members and has been credited with the start- up of Whitsunday Island, Dorrigo, Tamworth and Lithgow Indian myna control groups.
