Our main mission is to reach and support sufferers of fibromyalgia and its many associated symptoms and overlapping conditons. Our main office is based in Coatbridge but we are trying to get meetings and groups set up across Scotland and eventually further afield. Funding has become so scarce and there are still thousands of sufferers out there who are totally alone, they do not know we exist and we need to reach them. We now support 7k members, we provide advocacy for help with benefits and other forms of help ie applying for your home to be fitted with fittings to make it safer for you, We run Facebook groups. We run virtual coffee chats twice a week Wednesday and Sunday nights 7 -8pm plus members can post on the pages 24/7 for both volunteer and peer support. The office is open 5 days a week 10-4pm for anyone to drop in. There is a walking group in Coatbridge that was established during lockdown. There are currently 7 monthly support groups in different areas. We have made a few videos of some members worst symptoms, and spend hours researching various methods of trying to ease symptoms. I have personally been on stalls and had people be so overwhelmed when they read the stall and realise what we are and say I've had this for x amount of years, I never knew. I didnt know there was help out there. You never truly know how hard it is to feel so so alone in the world until your there yourself, in which case its too late. People are already socially isolated but with the rising cost of fuel this prevents people and volunteers being able to attend the office as frequently as we'd like and support groups aside from launching anymore. I think for most of us here at More Than Fibro it can be summed up in this quote from a member."I found a home, a purpose, I found a family of people I likely won't ever meet all of but who understand so much more than anyone around me."We still have so much to bring to the fibromyalgia community and other overlapping chronic illnesses but as always, it's at a cost. We need to as a charity try to reestablish funding opportunities to allow us to continue with the work that we are doing.
