Montana Mustang Connection and Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit. We specialize in working with all horses in need, but more specifically unhandled or "wild" mustangs, burros, mules & rescue horses to train and find them loving, permanent homes and keep them out of the slaughter pipeline. Every year thousands of young, sound, healthy but wild, unhandled horses wind up going through auctions where they have very little chance of being purchased by anyone but kill buyers because very few people are set up for and have the desire, skills and knowledge to train a wild horse. These horses can be from roundups on Reservations, can be BLM mustangs that are sale authority and can be legally sold, can be BLM mustangs that were adopted but for whatever reason their adopters chose not to keep them, or can be "domestic" horses that never received training or fell on hard times for example. We take in these types of horses and provide care and training to give them their best a chance at a long and happy life as productive members of families. We strongly believe these horses deserve so much more than a grueling trip to Mexico or Canada where they will be slaughtered. We have saved, trained and placed horses nationwide and those horses have gone on to be well-loved ranch horses, trail horses, eventers, jumpers, endurance horses, barrel racers, family horses... They all have such potential and the possibilities are endless if given a chance. So that is what we do. But caring for horses isn't cheap. Feed alone can be $70-$80 per month apiece. Figure in farrier expenses at $50 per trim, veterinary costs as they arise, wormer, supplements, bedding, tack, keeping our facilities in repair... well it takes a village!
