The Men's Kitchen provides an unsafe, supportive and instructive environment where older men learn cooking skills. At each cooking session, usually conducted over a weekday lunchtime, we group in pairs and prepare a main course and a dessert. We then sit down and enjoy the meal. By developing these skills older men are better able to support themselves and their family. Members also learn important food safety lessons so the quality of the food you prepare will be safe to eat, nutritious and delicious.

We currently run five kitchens in Sydney in the Northern Beaches and Kur-ring-ai LGAs where we have 16 cooking sessions each month. At each session 10 members are assisted by at least two experienced cooking instructors in preparing the meals.

We are currently expanding into the Canberra area and will start a new kitchen at the Woden Uniting Church hall in Curtin in late May this year. We accept men from all walks of life and we do not want to exclude anyone because of their financial situation. Sponsorship is therefore essential to keeping the costs to a minimum. We are looking for sponsorship to cover the costs of running the Canberra kitchen for the first 12 months. We estimate this to be $7445 covering such things as venue rental, insurance and purchasing kitchen equipment, utensils and stocking a pantry.
