About us
LifeRing Secular Recovery: Empower Your Sober Self
LifeRing Secular Recovery is an international peer-support network for people building lives free from alcohol and drugs through personal responsibility and self-empowerment. Rather than prescribing a single path, LifeRing helps members strengthen their "Sober Self" by creating individualized recovery strategies.
The "3-S" Philosophy
Sobriety: Complete abstinence from alcohol and non-medically indicated drugs.
Secularity: Focus on practical methods rather than spiritual beliefs. All faiths and non-believers are welcome.
Self-Empowerment: Members own their recovery journey by designing personalized plans that fit their needs.
Connections and Community
Meetings: Peer-led online and in-person meetings center on the check-in question: "How was your week, and how is your upcoming week looking?" Respectful crosstalk and practical dialogue are encouraged.
Discussion Groups & Forums: 24/7 online message boards provide continuous connection and support.
Specialized Focus Communities
LGBTQIA+: Affirming spaces for unique shared experiences.
Veterans & First Responders: Support for military, healthcare, law enforcement, and emergency personnel dealing with high stress and trauma.
Family & Friends: Spaces to build coping skills and focus on personal well-being.
Co-Occurring Disorders: Support for managing recovery alongside mental health challenges (PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc.).
SUD/ALD Focus: Support for substance use disorder and alcohol-related liver disease, including Spanish-language meetings.
Recovery by Choice: Structured support using the Recovery by Choice workbook.
What to Expect at Your First Meeting
Meetings are welcoming, confidential, and nonjudgmental. There are no prayers, rituals, sponsors, or labels required (such as "alcoholic" or "addict"). The only requirement is a desire for sobriety. Participation is voluntary—you can simply say "I pass" if you prefer to listen.
