Ferncroft Wildlife Rescue is committed to provide skilled care for distressed wildlife. The goal of wildlife rehabilitation is to provide professional care to sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals so ultimately, they can be returned to their natural habitat. Ferncroft holds a license through the CT DEEP to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. Ferncroft specializes in rehabbing opossums. We provide sheltered housing, medical care and nutrition to animals in our care. Care ranges from Vet bills, medication, medical supplies, supplements, formula, food, cages, beds, and beyond. We work with veterinarians to assess injuries and diagnose a variety of illnesses. We hold a Federal USDA Permit that allows us to keep non-releasable opossums for educational purposes. Additionally, we hold permits to provide educational programs in R.I. and MA. Non-releasable opossums are trained to become public ambassadors and accompany the Lefferts to programs that provide education about wildlife rehabilitation, how to co-exist peacefully, and how to help wildlife survive. Educational programs are tailored for various age group and interests. From kids to elderly, community groups to classrooms, learning about wildlife is a topic of interest for everyone. Ambassador animals provide an opportunity to meet an opossum and to learn about these gentle creatures.
