Kootenay Acres Farm Sanctuary, a registered non-profit in the West Kootenays of British Columbia, provides a safe and permanent home for rescued and rehomed farm animals, with a special focus on those with medical or special needs. What began as a small hobby farm has grown into a community-oriented sanctuary where animals such as sheep, goats, pigs, horses, poultry, and companion animals receive individualized care, veterinary support, and lifelong sanctuary. Through volunteer programs, educational outreach, and small group tours, Kootenay Acres fosters compassion and awareness by sharing the stories of animals traditionally seen as commodities, instead celebrating them as valued companions. The sanctuary is sustained by donations, volunteer efforts, and in-kind support, and is committed to advancing animal welfare while strengthening connections between people, animals, and the environment.
