Founded over 30 years ago in response to a critical need, The Humane Society of Dickson County began as a grassroots effort to address the overwhelming number of homeless animals in our community. At a time when millions of animals were dying in shelters nationwide—and rural areas lacked local resources for unwanted pets—concerned citizens in Dickson County, Tennessee came together with a clear mission: promote spay and neuter education and ensure every dog and cat has the opportunity for a safe, loving home.
Today, HSDC is a vital and visible presence in Dickson and the surrounding counties. The organization provides a safe haven for homeless animals and helps more than 1,100 pets find permanent homes each year. As a no-kill shelter, HSDC is supported by a dedicated network of foster families and strong partnerships with regional rescue organizations, expanding its ability to save lives.
Generous community members and corporate partners make this work possible by funding essential shelter operations, including veterinary care, utilities, food, and supplies. HSDC has become the leading advocate for homeless pets in Dickson County, and its continued success depends on the ongoing support of compassionate individuals and businesses who believe every pet deserves a forever home.
