Hope for Hedgehogs Woodside
About us
We are a volunteer run hedgehog rescue and rehabilitation charity (number 1204277) based in the village of Ryton, Tyne & Wear. We rely on public donations to keep us open and functioning. The hedgehog is on the 'red list' of wild animals in danger of becoming extinct in the UK. We have lost over half of our hedgehogs from the countryside since the millennium and a third from towns and cities. Our main aim is to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many hedgehogs as we can back into the wild. We treat and care for wild hedgehogs who are sick, injured, orphaned, or displaced in the area - in line with current professional guidance provided by The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and The Vale Wildlife and Rehabilitation Centre. We are also RSPCA approved. Our work includes assessments, treatments, medications, and vet visits. We give emergency advice to members of the public, collect sick or injured hedgehogs, share information via our social media platforms, fund-raise, run education and awareness talks and attend community-based events. The only funding we receive is from public donations and fund-raising events - without which, we would not be able to carry on our work. Every penny goes back into helping the hedgehogs e.g. food, vet bills and medication, rent, utilities.
