About us
Young newcomers are often distressed after having a refugee past, including enduring war and refugee camp life, feeling grief and loss, and suffering deprivation. All of this affects their lives here. HEAL creative arts therapy, facilitated by professional therapists, uses arts and music therapy to build healing relationships, help refugee background children to process their challenges, settle into school here, and to become open to learning. HEAL therapy is a proven service, commencing in 2004, now operating in five Brisbane schools. Feedback includes positive value reported by teachers and students; past students expressing gratitude for help gained through therapy; the UN QLD Award for Community Service was awarded to HEAL in 2015; and the QLD Government Multicultural Award for Service awarded in 2016. HEAL creative arts therapy offers these kids the chance for recovery: to regulate their emotions, soothe their nerves, and become better students with improved relational capabilities. This creates better future citizens. A worthwhile investment indeed.
